Our Ministry of Education is giving too many grants to IT professions
And this is bad, let’s see why
This is surprising how this good intention to grow the number of IT professionals in a country leads to low quality of education.
First of all, I don’t blame the Ministry of Education. I understand it makes sense to give more grants to IT if you need more IT specialists.
I am a professor in a university, and here is my perspective.
Many children who chooses a profession after graduation from school, looks at the number of grants for each specialty. Now, seeing that IT has much more (3x-4x) grants, they understand that they have more chances to win. Moreover, their parents understand this too, and they force children to go to IT.
The thing is that in an average class of 20 students, we only have maximum 3 students who are actually interested in programming. The rest of them hate it. And they pull these good students back.
You would say: ignore these students and only work with the good ones. Now, would you be able to prepare for hours, read lectures and see no results? The good students, to be honest, already do programming, but that’s another story. The problem is that the motivation to teach is going down so quickly!
